New Music Review: KT Tunstall's "The Scarlet Tulip EP"

Thursday, April 21, 2011

KT Tunstall has certainly made a name for herself for her radio hits like "Suddenly I See" and "Black Horse and The Cherry Tree".  Tunstall's real talent, however, is her ability to make amazing music with just her voice and her guitar. Her new EP "The Scarlet Tulip", released just last Friday, is a great highlight of that. Read on for my review!

Watch This: "Never Mind The Buzzcocks"

Tuesday, November 9, 2010

Remember panel shows? Probably not, since it's been decades since there's been a decent one in the US of A. They usually feature celebrity guest stars who work in teams or with guest players to play quiz shows, and be their wacky celebrity selves. Perhaps the most popular example is "The Match Game", which aired in the 1970s and is one of Game Show Network's favorite things to re-run.

Overdue Review: Sara Bareilles' "Kaleidoscope Heart"

Wednesday, November 3, 2010

Let's face it. Most pop on the radio today sucks. The majority of it is thoughtless crap written by a man-behind-the-curtain and performed by increasingly irritating tweens who try to belt it out like they wrote all those words about their first crush or love or whatever the hell you wanna call it. Ugh. Ugh times a thousand.

But wait, don't leave yet-there's hope! And her name is Sara Bareilles. Sara made it big with her hit single "Love Song" in 2007, which, incidentally, she wrote about her frustration with the record company telling her "just write a love song for us." The song was part of her hit debut album Little Voice-now, three years later, Sara is back with her follow up album "Kaleidoscope Heart". Was it worth the wait, and does Ms. Bareilles continue to impress in the singer/songwriter and adult pop genres? Read on to find out!

3 Debut Albums Everyone Should Own

Friday, October 15, 2010

Like movies and TV shows alike, new music comes out in droves nowadays. Maybe it's due to the way the internet has changed all three industries, maybe it's the increased ease and availability of creation. In any case, there's so much new music flooding the market that sometimes it's hard to decide what to spend your time listening to.

Well, I'd like to think I can help...ahead are 3 debut albums that I think everyone should own, as right out the gate the artist (or artists) involved made a high quality project. More after the jump!

New Music Review: KT Tunstall's "Tiger Suit"

Wednesday, October 6, 2010

KT Tunstall first burst on the music scene in 2004, with her hit debut album "Eye To The Telescope", which featured the popular blues-rock-pop single "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree". From there she took off, releasing an EP of acoustic songs fittingly titled "KT's Acoustic Extravaganza" in 2006 and the pop-infused "Drastic Fantastic" in 2007.

Now the singer-songwriter-guitar player is back with a new album entitled "Tiger Suit".

Was the album worth the 3 year wait? More after the jump!

New Music Review: Night Train

Wednesday, May 12, 2010

It all started back in 2004, when Keane released their debut album Hopes & Fears, a fantastic exploration of the emerging piano-rock genre. The band's first single "Somewhere Only We Know" was heard everywhere, with it's soaring vocals, hammering but peaceful piano, and escapist theme. Two years later, the band's sophomore album Under The Iron Sea came as a surprise to some, with it's darker and sometimes cynical tones (which came the band almost breaking up following extensive touring). "Is It Any Wonder?" was a loud arena anthem that expressed great frustration with the world's leaders and some of their actions. In 2008, the band released their latest full album Perfect Symmetry, an exploration of synth and electronic influences as evidenced by the single "Spiralling". Now, the band has released their newest material, the EP Night Train...

John Mayer Continues To Impress With "Battle Studies"

Thursday, April 15, 2010

It all began in 2001, with Room For Squares, John Mayer's debut album. Like the first single, "No Such Thing", the album was a story of the modern young adult, filled with songs about wondering what the hell to do with your life, love, and everything in between. Then came Heavier Things in 2003, and the saga continued. "Bigger Than My Body" was a call recognize that un-tapped potential in us all with effect-heavy guitar and soaring vocals. Three years later, in 2009, Mayer introduced himself as someone new-a bluesy, sometimes political singer-songwriter who could seriously shred on guitar. With his new sound and amazing chops, everyone wondered where he would go next--finally, in November of 2009, we found out...
